I’m going to be in London this summer and would like to Backpack through Europe. Suggestions of an itinerary?

short stay amsterdam

So I will be studying abroad in London this summer. After the trip (sometime in August) I want to travel a bit around Europe for a week or two (a short time, I know, but classes start after this).

I want to see any and as many of the following: Germany, France, Amsterdam, Spain, and Switzerland. I don't care where I end the trip as long as I can fly home.

Now, I realize that I do not have time for everything, but what do people suggest in terms of where to go/prioritize, where to stay, what to bring, how to get from point to point, etc.

Let me know. Much appreciated.

  1. Paris, France (realistically you could probably do this on a semi long school break since it’s all of 3 hours away by train)
    Barcelona, Spain
    Bern, Switzerland

I’m not really sure which is the best German city. If you like castles Fussen is near the ‘sleeping beauty’ castle or Neuschwanstein if you want specific names :)

    I also recommend Prague.

I usually recommend staying in hostels, you’ll have to do your own research for which specific ones though :P . Train is definitely the way to go. You’ll need to figure out where you’re planning on going to see if point to point tickets are a better deal (if you reserve ahead of time and know your schedule you can save a lot of money) or if a rail pass would be cheaper.

I would recommend getting a europe guide book. Rick steves has a good ‘best of europe’ book. And Let’s Go has a good budget book, “Europe on a budget” for 10 bucks on amazon. It’s great to research things to know exactly what you want to see ahead of time, it can save you money and a lot of time.

    Have lots of fun!
