Traveling to India December 26th-January 5th?

short stay amsterdam

I will be traveling to India right after Christmas (I am located in the U.S.). I will be flying through Amsterdam to Delhi where me and another girl will be staying with our friend and her family in Delhi. We are planning a short day trip to Agra to the Taj Mahal, but other than that, we are planning to stay in Delhi the whole time.

We are then flying from Delhi to Bangkok, Thailand, but will have a layover in Mumbai. I am a little bit concerned due to the recent attacks in Mumbai. I do feel safe in Delhi since I am staying with a friend who has arranged all transportation and a tour guide for us.

Should I be concerned about my layover in Mumbai? I am really looking forward to the trip, but I do want to be smart about things due to the recent attacks.

Thanks!

  1. The police there try so hard to keep the peacefulness in their country. I guess, the terrorists will not attack India about this few months. So, i guess it is safe to be there.

But to be on the safer side 100%, i bet don’t go there.

  2. Check the travel advisories on the state dept. web page, keep your eyes open, don’t flaunt yourself as a tourist. Other than that all you can do is plan to have a fantastic trip!

  3. Securities might have got tightened after this incident but I would suggest taking extreme care and to avoid public as well as crowded places. Bombay is the top traget for the militants because of being the financial capital of India. Delhi could be more safer due to tightened security. You might go with your friend’s arrangements. Above all nothing can be predicted and you need to go with your instict.

  4. Born in India and now living in Australia i can say that its safe in India……..just as it is safe anywhere…………….in a population of 1.2 Billion people you just need to have only 0.0001% of bad people or less than that to create a havoc ………….

Don’t worry too much……..things that have happened in Mumbai can also happen in Delhi or for that matter any place…………..but its not that bad of a security situation as it looks from outside

I personally don’t like the Taj but for some reason every one from outside india comes to see it………………..there is a lot more to India other than the Taj…………..best of luck for the trip and goodluck

  5. as you might be knowing 26th January is the republic day of india during that time Delhi is on red alert, it would be 100% safe if you come on the 27th instead of the 26th.

when u plan to go to agra make sure you dont travel during the night as it is a 5-6 hour drive one way from delhi, there is nothing to be scared of or such just its safe in day light.

there are many things you can do or enjoy in delhi like food, hip night life, depending on your taste.

there is some serious problem going on in Bangkok chk on that before you you even think about going there, its a matter of concern as the complete airport is on siege.

MUMBAI ROCKS. they cant put a scratch on you even if they plan on hitting on you. hehehe due to the sheer population size.

  6. its as safe if not safer then cities in the US, Europe and the rest of the world. Anything could happen anywhere these days. Don’t let anyone spoil your plans. Indians are some of the nicest peole on the planet. Terrorists are some of the worse people on the planet, and the next attack could be anywhere in the word. Don’t let them spoil your plans. Have fun, lifes too short
