Hostels or renting an apartment?

My friends and I ( 18 years old, all female) are planning to travel to Madrid during our spring break in April for a little over a week.

We found some nice hostels but we also found great apartments that rent for short stays. The hostels are cheap, but the apartments in consideration to location, facilities, and the over all gorgeous look to the rooms are fairly cheap too. The last apartment we looked at housed 5, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living area plus usual amenities (kitchen) for 110 per night - split that between 4 it'll be around $300 per person.

So, should we stay in a hostel or apartment?
Any hostels that we should check out
and apartment sites we should check out?

opinions please.

moving to LA?

Hi my daughter is hoping to move to LA area she hopes to get a job at blue cross in woodland hills she works to blue cross in MA and looking to move to Van Nuys she saw some apartments the Madrid and the Kittridge Glen are they in a safe neighborhood ,also boyfriend will also be moving too he is a eletriction with a MA licence hows the pay for that job also how long will it take to get to woodland hills from Van Nuys taking the 405 or can you take the back roads . And about how much is basic cable and car insurance she has a 2006 tuson Thanks so much

I have a few questions about Spain?

I'm 15 and I'm going there this summer with my school (my best friend is coming on the trip too

)) !) Anyways I have some questions and please try to answer as many and as accurate as possible. If you can only answer just one that's okay too please just try!
Here goes...
-How many Euros does, say, a Big Mac cost?
-How are birthdays celebrated if at all? I'm turning 16 while I'm there.
-How do teenagers dress in Madrid/Salamanca?
-What is the cost of like, a Spain T-shirt? (I'm trying to do some cost comparisons)
-In Salamanca, where does a typical middle class family live? A condo? Apartment? House?

And lastly...
if you were a Spanish host family, what gift(s) would you find the most exciting/interesting?

I don't eat hamburgers; I'm asking because I want a price comparison. I will be enjoying the Spanish food!!! I have never eaten and will never eat a Big Mac!!!
Oh yes and I know Spain isn't third world but different places have different cultures! I consider Spain to be above the U.S.!

I’m moving to Madrid to do my master’s in october (th July); which is the best website to find an apartment?

I've been surfing for a while, I'm kind of skeptic about the sites I've visited since most of the apartaments are around 700-900(E) for a ridiculous small amount of space. I would like to know what's the usual rate, and the best neighborhoods. I would be attending the Instituto de Empresa, what areas are within a reasonable distance? Thanks in advance...

Living in Madrid – Spain (salary question)?

I have been offered a financial controller & planner position at a Spanish company and will be relocating to Madrid, Spain in a few months. The company is arranging the permits & visa at the moment but I was wondering if I did a good job at negotiating. The offer is €32,000/year gross. Their accountant told me that is about €2,100/month net. I have double degrees in Finance/Management + M.S. in Finance. I am not very experienced though, just 1 year. So my question is whether I will be able to continue my standard of living in Madrid... I rent a 1 bedroom apartment in Washington DC at the moment and it is $1,200 per month. How much should I expect to pay for accommodation?

How can I wake up in the morning without natural light? Any tricks?

I'm studying abroad in Madrid and I have an interior room in a high rise apartment building in the city. Almost no light enters my room in the morning and because of this it's almost impossible for me to motivate myself to get out of bed. I need natural light to wake up my body and my mind. Any suggestions on how to combat this problem?
