How much is average rent in Florence or Pisa?
I need to rent a one bedroom apartment near this general area for about 6 months. How much is rent usually, and do they do month to month? Is it easy to find places?

It is depend on the season time as well, If you go to stay florence at peak time, you have to pay more and if it is low demanding time, definitely price will be less, as an average price for a week $ 300 you have to cost. but this is depend on the apartment to apartment.
My advise is to search your requirement first, coz there are very less places give total cost at once, you have to fill the request form and get the quart. by doing it, you can plan out the budget you need. Sometimes, individual houses may charge lesser rate than apartment. You have to spend some time to find that type of place

You should be able to rent for around 1200 euros a month in the Florence central area – about $1560. I don’t know about small towns in the area between Florence and Pisa, they are probably cheaper.
