I need some info on London house rent, opening a bank account, driving license?
I am considering a year or two it's my first time in Europe. Three questions here:
1. Which area of London can I find an affordable single apartment? What is estimated budget? Do I have to pay any deposits - what are tenant rights in England? Do the homes come with a telephone and an Internet connection?
A resourceful website link would be helpful. Or, from your personal experience.
2. What is the procedure to open a UK bank account for foreign residents? What documents needed?
3. I have an International Driver's Permit. Do I still need to go for a UK driving test?
My estimated monthly budget is $2000. Would that be sufficient for above needs?
Thanks for help from anywhere.

I can only give you information about the driving licence….
You can drive on your home country driving licence for one year from the date of arriving in the UK. After that time if you haven’t taken and passed the UK practical driving test, you would revert to being a learner and would have to get a provisional licence and may only drive on our roads if accompanied by a full licence holder over the age of 21, who has had a full licence for at least three years.
This link should help…
I can’t seem to find any information regarding your International licence, other than if it is issued in the UK and going to be used abroad, so I’m not sure what the exact rules are about that….here is one link with some useful information…
You don’t say which country you are in right now, (I’m assuming it’s the US, but whichever country it is, there will probably be quite a few rules of the road which are different to what you are used to, so it would be in your own best interests if you took a few lessons to familiarise yourself with our ways of driving.
(I went to visit my friend in Kansas a few years ago and was having kittens when she was turning on a red light…not done in this country at all!)
Edit
Just had a look and this is a useful link about opening a bank account…
Also just looked at the exchange rate and 2000 US Dollars is…
1,043.7061British Pounds
(it is expensive to live in London)
After another search I found this…
Hope all the info helps in someway…
