Should we go to Prague?
I've wanted to go there for years and finally looked into going next month. But some of what I've seen on the Net about overcharging, unfriendliness, stag/hen parties and over-tourism has made me wonder if it would be a big mistake. We're not into night life and were planning to book an apartment and walk the city. Any views based on personal experience from over 40's would be welcome. Thanks.

My husband and I went 2 years ago. We found that it was not as cheap there as we were lead to believe was pretty boring and yes the people are very unfriendly. Definately would not go back.

Prague is one of my favorite places (& I’m over 40). I usually go in August during the Italian holiday period. There’s a lot to see and do. It isn’t as inexpensive as it used to be, but it isn’t expensive as many other places I’ve visited here in Europe either.
You don’t have to be into nightlife to enjoy Prague – I’m not either. There are some restaurants with good live music though. I particularly like the castle, art & architecture. There are several day trips worth taking from Prague. Cesky Krumlov is particularly good as is Karlstejn Castle. I’ve seen some of the party groups, but they’re not so obvious or obnoxious as in Amsterdam – you can pretty much avoid that kind of thing.
Prague is a good place for walking, but it also has an excellent metro – just avoid the taxis.

I’ve been to Prague twice and I’ve NEVER experienced unfriendliness or rudeness, or been overcharged. The local people have been nothing but friendly and helpful, and the service was always good.
I think if you avoid the Old Town and in particular the area around Wenceslas Square at night, you’ll be alright.
I would say that a lot of the unfriendliness is down the bad behaviour and questionable morals displayed by drunken stag parties, but couples who are past all that are generally welcomed.

Go to Prague. I have no idea what other posters are talking about with regard to rudeness or the like. As long as you are respectful, attempt to speak the language, and are friendly, people will be the same right back to you.
I was there a few years ago and fell in love with the city doing the exact same thing that you’re planning to do. We walked around, spent time at cafes and relaxed.
You should definately go!

I went to Prague last May. I really enjoyed it, and generally speaking it is cheaper than Western Europe. I would not recommend going in the summer. You should go in the fall or spring, when the weather is nice but it is not as crowded. I would also recommend doing day trips to Karlovy Vary and Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic.
