A good apartment in Shanghai?

shanghai apartment

In January I'm moving to Shanghai for a year, and I'm already starting to think about apartment hunting. My place of work will give me someone to help find me an apartment, but I want to try and get a few steps ahead so it goes as quickly and smoothly as possible, and I will know what's going on.

I do not yet know what district of Shanghai my office will be in, there are several offices for my organization.

I want something fairly "cheap" and "affordable" but at the same time, I want something nice, relatively new, and not bad, too old, or dirty.

I need it to be safe--for example, you can only get upstairs to the apartment floors if you have a key or the resident lets you in, or there is a doorman.

I highly prefer air-conditioning in all rooms, and a western bathroom.

I don't mind a long commute to work if it helps with price.

I don't need to live near other Westerners.

Hope that gives you a better idea of what I am looking for and my wants and stuff. Any ideas? Any districts I should look at? What should a good price be that's not too expensive? What type of apartment should I be able to get? and anything else you can think of :)

Thanks!

  1. may be you need send information in baidu post

  2. I recommend looking at Shanghai Expat (http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/). Because of the construction boom Shanghai is constantly changing so its best that you get the perspective of someone currently living in the city.

  3. There is a lot of choice, and trawling the web/ looking at expat websites will help. However I’d suggest you refine your criteria a bit more –
    – what size of apartment do you need (living area / number of bedrooms/bathrooms) ?
    – what is the upper limit that you are prepared to spend per month?
    – what really is the upper limit on commute time? 1 hour? more , less?
    – where will you be based? – there would be no point looking for places in HongQiao for example if you find that you would be working in ZhangJiang. If you are going to be based in multiple locations then look for somewhere central, near an underground station.
