International Kitty?

florence apartment
So for spring semester, I'm planning on studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Supposing I found an apartment where I would be allowed to keep my cat, what regulations are there for bringing animals in and out of the country? What kinds of health forms are needed? How do you travel on a plane with a cat for 13 hours? I've heard that pets need to be in quarentine for three months, both coming and going. Is this true?

Help an American teen wanting to live for a year in Florence, Italy?

florence apartment

I am an American teen who just graduated high school and I want to spend a year living in Florence, Italy, working at any random job living in an apartment. I am even willing to be a janitor of a shop if need be, I don't care what the job is I just want to live there and be able to pay off a cheap apartment for a year.

Is this possible, what do I need to do, where do I start etc.?

I need as much information as possible because I am starting at the beginning with this.

Ten points for best answer.

Thanks a lot

What are the costs for living in Florence, Italy?

florence apartment

I will be going to study in Florence, in january 2010 for a year, and was wondering roughly how much rent, bills (electricity, gas, heating..) and food would cost per month - roughly?... I will be a student, so would like to know if there are cheap accommodations, or rental apartments that anyone knows about. I was thinking all expenses plus rent would come to roughly 600-700 euros.. is this realistic?

Thank you!!! :o )

Can you recommend some good language schools in Florence, Italy?

florence apartment

I'm visiting Florence for at least 3 months and trying to find an Italian language school. I've come across a ton of schools from google, but it's difficult to differentiate between them. Has anyone ever studied there that can recommend a good school? By "good", I'm taking these factors into consideration: price for intensive courses, price for accommodations (preferably in a private apartment, but a shared flat with other students would be fine also), learning atmosphere of the classes, extra-curricular activities to meet others and learn about Italian culture, and general condition of the school. If I've failed to list something that you think is important, please tell me in your answer. Thanks!

What do I need to do to secure a job and find a nice, affordable apartment in Florence?

florence apartment

Hi All. I'm from San Diego, CA and looking to move to Florence and use it as a base of operations for traveling. I love traveling and in the past 2 years, I've lived in 3 countries - Switzerland, Germany, Russia. In America, I was a personal trainer, but because of the language barrier in these countries, I began work as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language.

I'd like to move by Jan. or Feb. of '07. Is that realistic? Does that give me enough time for processing all the necessary paperwork and anything else involved with living in Italy?

Any advice on how to plan this move would be much appreciated!

Also, I'd like to get an "insiders" view of Florence, and Italy in general, from both Italians and foreigners already living there. If you feel comfortable communicating more in-depth information by email (anything from political, economic, and social climate to good clubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, and other "hotspots"), PLEASE do so.

Thanks!
By the way, I'm also considering Amsterdam as a place to settle in (you've probably already seen my question, worded exactly as this one but with Amsterdam instead of Florence). Just tryin' to keep my options open. If you know anything about either city, please let me know.
